Nate Maingard, a modern troubadour poet, and James Van Minnen (The Steady Tiger, percussionist drummer extraordinaire) are collaborating for the first time. This is an intimate soiree in a home in Constantia, and is a donation-based event.

Come and sink into the experience of being serenaded by two of Cape Town's wandering minstrels.

DETAILS ABOUT THE MUSICIANS:
Nate Maingard
Modern Troubadour and singer-songwriter Nate Maingard was born in a cottage on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa, surrounded by wild ocean and rugged mountains.

Growing up in his father’s guitar-making workshop, Nate eventually crafted his own instrument and award-winning musical style. His guitar Melody accompanies him in heartfelt songs, which gently illuminate and fiercely celebrate the archetypal journeys we all share as humans.

Nate is a breathe of fresh air and an exciting artist to experience, whether at his shows or talks, through listening to one of his albums or by connecting with him online.

Nate draws his inspiration from the indie-folk movement championed by the likes of Bon Iver, Elliot Smith, Death Cab For Cutie and Tallest Man On Earth…while remaining true to his first loves of the lyrical singer-songwriters of the 60’s, such as John Lennon, Nick Drake, Cat Stevens and Leonard Cohen.

PRESS:
“Maingard writes protest songs for lovers and love songs for rebels.” -LMG

“Take George Harrison and Elliott Smith, put them in a blender with a shot of individuality, and you get Nate Maingard“ -Jonathan Frahm

“Nate Maingard is one hell-of-a performer. Friendly, warm, full of passion and stories, he brings you in and takes you on a journey that you won't soon forget. Nate's songs and voice are fresh and yet represent the kind of well crafted, soaring sounds that will never go out of style.” - Rafe Offer (Sofar Sounds)

James van Minnen (AKA The Steady Tiger)
An accomplished drummer, James plays full drum kit as well as Middle Eastern and other ethnic percussion.

Playing professionally since 2000, James has played in various musical projects, recording and performing in Africa, Europe and Japan with names such as Ottoman Slap, Mean Black Mamba, Andrew James & The Steady Tiger, Hot Water, Sirena Riley (UK) and Shackleton (UK).

Specialising in acoustic, original and roots music, this drummer has honed a unique approach to rhythm, which has become not just the trademark of his career but a life path too.

  • The guard will be able to point you in the right direction.

ARRIVAL TIME  - 6.00pm will be ideal, and the music will start around 6.45pm.
This will give everyone time to choose a seat, settle in, socialise a bit and enjoy some snacks.

Seating is not reserved, so it’s good to arrive early. We can seat 60 people in chairs and sofas,  and squeeze in a few more on cushions if necessary!

FOOD AND DRINK:
Please bring your own alcohol/soft drinks and glasses, and a picnic supper if you want to eat before the show. (It’s best to keep that simple, as there won’t be tables to sit at.) We do provide a few snacks, ice and spring water.

The music will start about 45 mins after people arrive, and there will be 2 sets lasting about 40/45 mins. There will be an interval when you can eat and drink, and if the weather is fine, please bring a picnic blanket so you can sit outside and enjoy our lovely garden. The music happens indoors.

NB: We recommend that you bring a cushion to sit on, because most of the chairs are wooden and not padded.
