First of all, Africa has some of the fastest-growing economies in the world. However, organisations designing next-generation technology for this market often fail on their first attempt, this is mainly due to not understanding the context of use and the level of diversity any African country presents. Helga Stegmann will discuss how companies can design products & services that African markets will adopt, and some of the challenges she has seen over the last 15 years.

In addition, Helga will present her team’s UX research findings on market nuances across Sub-Saharan African countries. In particular, she will explore how Africans embrace new technology in banking, telecom and healthcare, their trust and use of social networks. Africa’s technology infrastructure advances at a rapid rate with many changes occurring constantly.

Finally, Africa leads the world in many ways in technology adoption and usage. What can be learned in the African markets that we can use to understand other global markets? If you built to succeed in Africa, can organisations ensure product success in other markets? In short: what can we learn from the next billion users?
