Speaker

  • Nicola Weaver, iXperience

Cape Town Startup Week is proud to partner with Cape Town-based and Workshop17-housed iXperience, to bring to you their top entrepreneurship lessons from the iXperience Book Club.

iXperience is one of South Africa’s most exciting startups, having achieved extraordinary growth over the past five years. Originating in Cape Town, the iXperience footprint now traverses four campuses on three continents.

The iXperience book club is an internal programme for their employees and students, in which they read one business book and summarize for the team.

Nicola Weaver of iXperience will take us through the design, implementation and outcomes of the iXperience programme, and will share her top ten entrepreneurship lessons from her favorite books on business.

Nicola Weaver is currently VP Education for iXperience, a career accelerator that combines immersive classroom learning, hands-on professional experience, and cultural and personal exploration. Prior to that, she ran a multi-million dollar, multi-year education innovation investment initiative for one of the largest financial services groups in Africa.

Previously, Nicola was an adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business. She convened the MPhil in Inclusive Innovation, an interdisciplinary, research-based Masters degree that leads to the development of sustainable, socially-impactful solutions for challenges in Africa. Prior to that, Nicola worked for SABMiller plc where she ran the SAB Foundation, whose mandate is to invest in innovation, and economic and entrepreneurial development in South Africa.

Nicola began working for SABMiller plc at the London head office in 2002 in the Corporate Strategy & Planning team, as the Corporate Planning & Strategy Executive. After returning to South Africa in 2004, she worked in various departments within the South African Breweries Ltd, including organisational development, sales and distribution, and corporate affairs.

Prior to joining SABMiller plc, she worked for INSEAD University (France) and the EU on a joint academic-corporate project on sustainable development, developing a toolkit for industry for product service systems across the European Union. She also worked as a strategy consultant for A.T. Kearney.

Nicola is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education through the University of Glasgow. She has completed the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education programme on Innovation for Economic Development, and holds a Masters degree (Economics) from WITS, an Honours Degree (Economics) from the University of Cape Town, and B.A. (Value & Policy Studies) from the University of Stellenbosch.
