Khayelitsha is one of the biggest townships in Africa. It is easily dismissed as a poverty-torn, crime-riddled hinterland of the Cape, but in recent years this bustling suburb is steadily rebranding itself as one of the most innnovative entrepreneurial hotspots in the continent. Cape Town Startup Week 2019 features three of the most innovative and creative startup entrepreneurs in front of a stage audience for the first time.

Sikelela Dibela, Owner of Siki's Koffee Kafe in Khayelitsha has worked his way up in the coffee business. Dibela started as a dishwasher in a prominent coffee shop in South Africa and as the business grew he was promoted to various positions within the company including being given an opportunity to set up new establishments in the UK. After collecting the necessary skills in the coffee business, Dibela has now opened his own shop in Khayelitsha.

Wandisile Nqeketho is the Founder and CEO of the 18 Gangster Museum in Khayelitsha. Observing the way South African youth are engaging with gang culture, Wandisile sought to find a creative way to curb gangsterism that will not only help reform and reintegrate current gangsters but will also help prevent future generations from inheriting this social ill. The museum experience is curated and guided by ex-offenders, giving them a meaningful way of giving back to society and allowing them to be at the forefront of our mission to demystify gangsterism.

Thulani Mguda is the co-founder of Orgasmic Gawulo, a fine-dining restaurant in the heart of Gugulethu. Orgasmic Gawulo infuses fine-dining with Gugulethu street food to educate the community about food, and food lovers about Gugulethu.
