ABOUT

The 18-year-old band leader, composer, figure skater, musician, scholar, songwriter and vocalist Hannah Kay will be gracing the ArtsOnRed stage at the iconic Radisson Red Hotel V&A Waterfront on the 17thNovember at 20h00.

Her dream is to be an established, versatile musician who has the ability to arrange, compose, produce and deliver music in all genres. Her dream to provide a platform for teens with music ability that does not have the finances to pursue music as a career. Her desire is to record and release her own albums. Hannah wants to make a difference with her songs, to touch lives, to build up, to inspire and to encourage.

She wants to be all that she can be to better the world though music. Since she can remember, she had a love for music. Hannah was born into a musical family with her dad who is an established singer, songwriter, pianist, band and worship team leader. Her brother is a brilliant drummer and bassist as well.

She has been fortunate enough to have been exposed to all sorts of music from jazz to pop art, soul, R&B, hip hop, classical, opera to name the few. She has always gravitated towards soul and alternative music. She has completed 5 years of vocal training and 8 years of flute lessons and has also done examinations at St Joseph’s Marist College and via The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Doing music as a subject has really aided her understanding the various aspects of music. Furthermore she has been part of choirs, vocal ensemble’s, orchestra’s, marimba and jazz bands since she can remember.

She also attended a week long musical theatre workshop presented by LAMTA. This consisted of acting, dance and singing. One of her most enjoyable experiences as a singer was being chosen as a Semi-finalist in the Diva’s Unite singing competition –she sang with an accompanist at the Cape Town Victoria and Alfred Waterfront Amphitheater. There were hundreds of people and she found the experience exhilarating. Hannah also auditioned and was accepted into the Cape Philharmonic Choir which is an acclaimed organisation in Cape Town. Hannah wants her music to be timeless like: Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Nat King Cole, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse, Madonna and Adele. It shouldn’t matter at what stage you are in life; the songs of the musicians mentioned above will always be relatable. That’s what she wants her albums to be like, timeless.

Hannah Kay is as an aspiring, young lady on a journey to refine her musicality, to enrich her knowledge of the music industry and to make a difference through her music.

Hannah Kay will be performing alongside her brother and father on the:
