ABOUT

After a 3 year hiatus, Mixing Bowl Productions is back with a fresh take on your favorite classic musicals!

One might recall childhood memories of watching Julie Andrews twirl on the top of hill singing her heart out or a drenched Gene Kelly tapping in the streets. Some of us might still remember the first Musical we ever saw live and being completely enchanted by the excitement and spectacle.

Devised and performed by Frances Sholto-Douglas and Richard White, Classic? A Song Cycle pays twisted homage to these memories and the great songs encapsulated in them. From Oklahoma! to Cabaret, you’re bound to stumble upon a tune you know and love. But be cautious. What you discover might not be what you expect…

Grab a close one, bring along your drink of choice, and join us in The Garage for an hour of respectfully distorted musical theatre classics!

About Mixing Bowl:

Started in 2014, Mixing Bowl Productions is a Cape Town-based theatre company that is interested in small-scale alternative music theatre. The founding members Keenan Tyler Oliphant, Tammy De Klerk, Richard White, and Amy Campbell co-created four projects from 2014 to 2016 including In-between, Cheers to Broadway, Private Parts, and the concert series No Jazz Hands Allowed. The pieces were performed at The Galloway Theatre and Alexander Bar Theatre In Cape Town as well as being toured to the National Arts Festival in Makhanda. With these and future projects, Mixing Bowl Productions aims to explore the possibilities and limitations of musical theatre (or music theatre) as it applies to the contemporary moment.
