Tracy Norman is a talented vocalist and songwriter based in Cape Town. Her unique and fresh approach to folk music is influenced by a wide range of styles including jazz and French chanson. She has performed at venues such as Alma Café and Cafe Roux as well as playing as part of Sit The Folk Down’s ongoing concert series on numerous occasions. Her collaborations with jazz musicians Blake Hellaby, Sean Sanby and Lumanyano Unity Mzi, resulted in her seeking mentorship from vocalist and composer Nicky Schrire. As a songwriter, Tracy has been a three time finalist in the annual Barleycorn Songwriters’ Competition, placing third in 2018. She also penned songs for American saxophonist and composer, Tristan Weitkamp, which he recorded with engineer Murray Anderson at Milestone Studios. She performs both as a solo act as well as alongside her four piece band, which currently features Stephen de Souza (double bass), Lilavan Gangen (percussion) and Jono Prest (trumpet). Tracy recently recorded her debut EP ‘Life As I Knew It’, and it is set to be released on the 15th November 2019.

“Tracy writes with a musical intelligence and mellifluous touch. She delivers her songs with a dream-like vocal quality, reminiscent of Carla Bruni, while her smart lyrics cut straight to the heart of the matter.” – Nicky Schrire, Vocalist & Composer
