ABOUT

Siphephelo Ndlovu, born in Johannesburg, started the SN project back in 2016 while completing a BMUS degree in Jazz Piano at The University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. During this time, Ndlovu’s encounters with the music of icons such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Keith Jarrett, and many others; sparked a desire to create compositions which would bring two worlds together – the world of Swing, Blues and Bebop constructed by figures whose works stand the tests of time, and the music inherent to the cultures of South Africa. “My aim is to create a fusion of sounds: on the one hand incorporating structures reminiscent of the jazz language, and on the other hand blending the sweet harmonies which resonate with South Africans”, said Ndlovu – founder of The SN Project.

With aims to achieve a unique South African sound, Ndlovu uses the piano and vocal techniques to interpret elements from genres he grew up listening to – namely uMbaqanga, Masakandi and Isichathamiya, resulting in an elaborate list of original titles which will all be performed with a live band on the evening of 17 October 2019.

The cost is R250 at the door, but if you reserve a seat using Quicket it’ll only cost you R180.

Food and drinks are available to purchase at the venue to make for a refreshing evening.
