RopeyThings Rope Marks II (Life Drawing)
Fri Sep 27, 18:00 - Fri Sep 27, 20:00
Private Venue in Observatory, Cape Tow. Address TBC a day prior to the event
ABOUT
RopeyThings is a bondage collective established in Cape Town, South Africa in 2016. We are riggers of diverse backgrounds and skill sets, who came together over a mutual love of rope. Our aim is to create a collaborative, intersectional and safe space for those who would like to learn the ropes, as it were.
This will be a two hour life drawing event with the subject matter being rope bondage, with various styles in performance by @_desire_lines, @sungakonji, @vroeteldier and @artcyanpeppah. Hosted in a black and queer-friendly space, this is an opportunity to explore a dynamic subject matter, as well as to socialise with the Cape Town rope community. We welcome both experienced artists and beginners.
What to expect:
- A beautiful space with ambient light in which to explore the fast-paced movement created by bondage/shibari/kinbaku.
- There will be a warm up session, and two main sessions with ample breaks in between.
- RopeyThings riggers who you can approach if you are starting out as a bottom or wanting to learn how to tie
- Networking and socialising opportunity
What to bring (besides your wonderful self):
- Your own art materials* - minimum of a pencil and a sketchbook recommended for beginners.
- The space is small, so please bring a clipboard or sturdy book to press on rather than an easel (unless it is a small travel easel).
*You are encouraged to bring your own drawing materials but we will have very basic supplies available for anyone who doesn't have.
Arrive 5:30pm to set up and make yourself comfortable for a 6 pm start.
ROAR - Right of admission reserved.
Code of conduct:
- Respect the model and rigger - no touching, heckling, chatting when tying is taking place. We require silence to get into the zone and sustain longer poses in rope.
- No photographs
- Themes of an adult nature will be explored. If you are triggered/ upset by anything, there will be a comfortable space just outside for you to decompress in.
Accessibility:
There are three steps into the main building, an elevator to the 1st floor. Please let us know in advance if you require assistance accessing the space.
