ABOUT
LANGA MAVUSO Live at UNTITLED BASEMENT, 13TH SEPTEMBER, 2019
Langa Mavuso is a 25 year old musician and singer-songwriter from Johannesburg. Born Nkosinathi
Nhlakanipho Mavuso, Langa, as he is known on stage, has emerged as one of South Africa's fastest-rising
talents.
In addition to his powerful natural gifts, Langa is well-skilled in the art of music making. He completed high
school at the National School of Arts where he studied Dramatic Arts for three years and Contemporary Music
for his final two years. He went on to refine his technique and vocal health by studying a year in formal
classical singing training at Rhodes University in 2013. In 2014 he enrolled at the University of Cape Town's
South African College of Music to study Jazz Performance under the guidance of renowned artist and vocal
teacher Amanda Tiffin.
As a young performer, he has graced some impressive stages. Performing everywhere from the Redbull
Brickfields Music Festival with Spoek Mathambo to a solo performance at Rocking The Daisies, he is a familiar
and well-loved artist on the local circuit. He has also made appearances in esteemed spaces, performing at
2015's State of the Nation Gala Dinner and as an opening act for the NBA All Africa Games.
Since signing to Black Coffee's label, Soulistic Music, Langa's star has skyrocketed. In addition to the immense
success of his two EPs and singles, he has also become something of a social media 'fave'. Sporting a distinctive
personal style, he attracted the attention of names like H&M, Spree, Woolworths, Ray Ban and Thread&Miller,
with whom he has been part of various retail campaigns. His effortless singer-chic and his relateable energy
online make him an authentic and appealing brand ambassador and influencer.
But he is a musician first and foremost. Langa is currently in studio working on his highly-anticipated debut
album, and hopes to give his fans and followers a truly distinct musical project.
