Thanks to funding from the National Lotteries Commission, Jungle Theatre Company will be performing Mantis and the Bee in the September school holidays.
Mantis and the Bee, is based on a story of the first people. It is a visual, musical and humorous exploration of /Xam mythology and the origin of life. The performance uses dance, masks, puppetry, Khoikhoi and English language.

Mantis and the Bee were created by the rain and the flame to go on an epic journey in search of life. They get involved in an action comedy adventure in a world before the earth was created. Discover the magic hidden inside the stories of the first people called /Xam.

Mantis and the Bee was created collaboratively by Jungle Theatre Company at the start of 2019. They play is written and directed by Joce Engelbrecht, masks and puppets were designed by Kai Goertz, music composed by Gershan Lombard and it is performed by Zizipho Gcasamba, Monray Davids and Siya Badi.

The performance, which is 45 minutes in duration, will be followed by a 45-minute interactive workshop. During the workshop those who have seen the show will be given an opportunity to share their interpretation of the characters and the story. There will be a 15-minute interval between the performance and workshop.
The event is most suitable for ages 8 and up. Refreshments will be on sale.
Ticket sales will be used to bring up to 60 children per day from our partner organisations to participate in the programme.
