Speaker: Peter Van Kets

Professional adventurer and inspirational speaker Peter van Kets has rowed across the Atlantic Ocean. Twice. He also represented SA in the Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race to the South Pole, one of the most gruelling endurance events ever staged. His expedition stories are about survival, courage, perseverance, passion, loneliness, tenacity, team work and the will to win. Peter is an amazing testament to the power of the human spirit and shows us what’s possible when ordinary people set out to do extraordinary things.

Film: The Hard Way

An uplifting and inspirational story about the human drive to continue doing what we love late into life. Bob Hayes is 89 and still runs nearly every day. And when he’s not running, he’s cutting firewood, hauling hay or tapping maple syrup, “doing things the hard way to remain active and alive”. The film follows Bob as he trains for the Bighorn 50km ultramarathon, the last race he ran with his wife before she passed away nine years ago. This film that takes us on a journey that’s about more than just running. It teaches us about living a life with purpose and momentum.
