 August is Woman’s month at Jazz on Red. We doing it in style with the talented and gifted Thandeka Dladla.

Thandeka Dladla is a versatile vocalist who is equally at home in both the jazz and Afro-soul spheres, she has recently completed her BMus Jazz Vocal degree at the South African College of Music, UCT under the tutelage of Nomfundo Xaluva. Her other professors and mentors include Amanda Tiffin and Mandisi Dyantyis. While completing her studies she gained practical learning experience in the business aspect of music from working with some of the best in their field of music management namely Nikki Froneman from Arte Viva Management and Gavin Minter at Real Wired Music. She still continues to gain knowledge and expertise in this field while continuing with her music career.

She is a budding songwriter, exploring heart-touching and socially relevant stories in her music and has gained much performance experience. Thandeka leads her own quartet in performances in South Africa and is also a part of various bands including The Unity Band which released their debut album Fabric in early 2019 and the Pebble Shakers which also released their latest projected Echoes of Sophiatown both bands are versatile in their musical offerings.

Thandeka is also a voice over artist who continues to work with various studios in Cape Town to produce some of the familiar sounds we hear on the airwaves.

Other career highlights include being a part of the shadow jury for the 6t? h UNISA International Singing competition early in 2018 and being featured on McCoy

Mrubata’s 2019 release of Brasskap Sessions Volume 3.

Throughout her studies she has shared and continues to share the stage with some of SA’s top musicians such as Amanda Tiffin, Nomfundo Xaluva, McCoy Mrubata and was a part of the UCT Vocal Ensemble which performed with Gloria Bosman in 2015. She has also participated in many youth jazz festivals including the Artscape Youth Jazz Festival and the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival in Grahamstown where she was a part of the festival’s vocal ensemble during 2015 and in 2016 was in USA based Justin Binek’s female only vocal ensemble during the festival. She has sung at several venues including the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Cape Town City Hall, The Crypt and the Joburg Theatre.
