Pretoria Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jaco van Staden, looks forward to putting A Spring in Your Step on Sunday, 15 September 2019 at 15:00. The vibrant bouquet of magnificent symphonic masterpieces will most certainly get the spritely feeling of spring into your step.
Internationally acclaimed Pretoria-based cellist, Berthine van Schoor joins the orchestra for a performance of Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, a masterpiece given celebrity status by the renowned cellist, Jacqueline du Pré.
The festive mood is set by a performance of Johannes Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, his most popular work showing the composer's lighter side with its fun medley of rowdy student drinking songs, written as a tongue-in-cheek "thanks" for an honorary degree.
Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 (“The Prague”) is a momentous testimony to his brilliance and creativity which has given him enduring celebrity status. This masterpiece of orchestration is a passionate expression of Mozart’s deep affection for one of the most beautiful European cities.
