Scenius Dinners v2.0 - 31 July, 2019 - Lapo's Kitchen, Jospehine Mill

Wed Jul 31, 18:00 - Wed Jul 31, 21:45

Lapo's Kitchen, Josephine Mill

ABOUT

I'm happy to announce the second and yes, slightly delayed Scenius dinner is a go! the next dinner will be held at Lapo's Kitchen at Josephine Mill which manages to not only offer an amazing and unique venue but also simplifies the process of coordinating an amazing dinner dinner for us all.

Josephine Mill was built back in the early 19th century and was declared a National Monument in 1978. On the banks of a tree-lined river and in the shadow of Newlands Rugby Stadium, the mill is still used to make stoneground flours. The building which adjoins it houses a museum, coffee shop, a teeny tiny coffee roastery, some still-to-be-allocated rooms, and the headquarters of chef Lapo Magni.

Lapo Magni is an Italian chef who was born and raised in Firenze, the beating heart of Tuscany. Growing up in a family of restaurateurs; with his mother, Elena and father Duccio as the visionaries behind a very successful restaurant “La Baraonda” for 18 years, meaning that from an early age, Lapo knew that he too would let his passions and family heritage guide him on his own culinary journey.

Lapo will be creating a 3-course culinary journey for us all, with local and sustainably sourced ingredients that promise to be spectacular. Please select the vegetarian option while buying a ticket if you are meat averse.

Scenius?

Inspired by the well known and missed 27 Dinners and other events of their time that were integral to creating such a dynamic and innovative network of people in Cape Town. The aim here is to grow a like-minded community of people, while also drawing additional inspiration from similar global communities like Farnham Street and the "scenius" model by Brian Eno

What is Scenius? "Scenius, or Communal Genius, is developed among people with a shared resonance. Individuals immersed in a productive scenius will blossom and produce their best work. When buoyed by scenius, you act like genius. Your like-minded peers, and the entire environment inspire you."

*Don't let the above intimidate you, the dinners are fun, relaxed and flexible

What's new - Version 2.0

After the first amazing dinner, there was plenty of great feedback and all of it was extremely insightful and helpful. Some key takeaways and updates to v2:

  • More wine - bat signal for a wine sponsor
  • There will be shorter intervals between courses with the keynote presentation being the longest gap between starters and mains.
  • The attendees list will be made public a few days prior with bios to better plan potential discussions and negate the need for a round-table intro session
  • Slots will be given to five attendees to briefly present larger projects [Elevator pitch or the music plays]
  • All you have to do is buy your ticket and that's it, no applications or repeat forms to fill out - I assume if you got this email or were sent the link by someone on this list, you'll add some value.
  • Don't send the link to anyone who will not add value - we will hold it against you.
  • The event is capped at 25 people and the table structure will be smaller to promote discussion.
  • Moving seats will be encouraged as there will be serving staff to clear plates and reset them
  • I won't say "now fuck" during the intro, I may in fact say nothing.
  • No comps, not that we intentionally gave any last time. I will be paying Lapo the same amount as you all
