Mapumba sings Tracy Chapman and Bill Withers

Mapumba Calimbo makes music as a singer, song-writer, producer and composer. His sound can be described as ranging from African folk, soul, reggae to African pop.

Living in Cape Town, South Africa, he was born in the southern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in a small town of Kolwezi. He learnt English in Zambia where he went to high school. The other languages he speaks are Swahili, French, Chiluba and Bemba. His beginnings were very humble with war and displacement but, through all that, music painted the best picture of love and joy. And he hasn’t let that go for any money in the world.

Mapumba has used his culture, various languages, stories and ideas to create seven of his own albums amongst other productions and tours to cities around the world. After 20 years he has just begun producing his best work. He has so many stories to tell.
