ABOUT

The Cape Consort and the Cape Soloists’ Choir join forces for a performance of the complete set of motets by Johann Sebastian Bach in a single concert: Singet dem Herrn / Der Geist hilft / Jesu, meine Freude / Fürchte dich nicht / Komm, Jesu, komm and Lobet den Herrn BWV 225-230. In addition to these extraordinary works – some of the best-loved and most challenging choral music of the Baroque repertoire – Ich lasse dich nicht (BWV Anh. 159), a motet of disputed authorship and possibly composed Johann Christoph Bach rounds off the programme.

The Cape Soloist Choir is a specialist ensemble of professionally trained singers, which was co-founded in 2013 by Antoinette Blyth and Jaco Dippenaar. The group has performed a varied repertoire spanning from JS Bach’s St John Passion to celebrated works of South African composers presented at the KKNK Klassique. With the backing of the Norwegian consulate the CSC showcased music of the Norwegian composer, Knut Nystedt, in several South African cities. The renowned choral conductor Kåre Hanken frequently worked with the group, praising it for its sound quality and high performance standard.
