Shisanyama Sunday - with Bertus Basson & Remhoogte Wine Estate

Sun Nov 10, 11:00 - Sun Nov 10, 16:00

Remhoogte Wine Estate

ABOUT

Weekends are always a great opportunity to hangout with friends and families and one really cool way to spend them is at Shisa Nyama's where you get to braai and have an amazing time.

Shisa Nyama is a term used in many South African townships to describe a braai or barbecue where people (friends or families) come together to grill meat in an open fire (usually near a butchery). Shisa Nyama is a Zulu phrase and, literally, means to "burn meat".

Shisa Nyama on a Sunday is a culture in South Africa. It is a time to meet up with old friends, hook up with new or enjoy Sunday with family, rather than cook up a huge meal for everyone. Going to a shisa nyama isn’t only about enjoying the feast, it is also about enjoying the festive mood and the culture.

In true South African style, legendary Chef extraordinaire, Bertus Basson and family-run Remhoogte Wine Estate invite you; your friends and family to come to this experience in true SA chill & grill fashion by giving back to charity; the Pebbles Project.

Each adult ticket includes a platter of shisanyama (options of grilled meat), salads & chakalaka and a selection of two Remhoogte wines or Wild Beast Brewery craft beer. Each Remhoogte wine bottle is produced with love and passion and handed over from their family to yours. Children will have access to a play area, managed by Pebbles Project employees (includes movie in a bus; face painting and other fun & games). Please bring your picnic chairs and blankets and use shared rides as parking is limited on the day.

Pebbles Project is a non-profit organisation currently supporting 1400 children aged 0 – 18 and their families in the farming communities in Somerset West, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington, Hemel-en-Aarde valley in Hermanus and Citrusdal. The majority of their beneficiaries are children of wine farm workers who live on the various farms in often challenging circumstances.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to Pebbles Project.

ABOUT HOT WATER

HOT WATER is a Cape Town Afro-Pop band fronted by Donovan Copley that performs universally accessible, feel-good music to inspire soulful and fun dance vibes.
We move people through music that reflects the spirit of South Africa. Hot Water effortlessly captivates, connects and lifts audiences locally and abroad.

When producing its Hollywood blockbuster film Blended, Warner Bros Entertainment needed a perfect song that would symbolise South Africa.
The result was using Hot Water's infectious song Wamkelekile as the movie soundtrack: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd_9pbNEjX8.
In the words of Blended producer Kevin Grady: “I really wanted to find a song that embodied South Africa, the film’s story and the journey of the characters within the [love] story. Wamkelekile not only does that, but it’s also a fun, catchy and playful song that people just love.”

Hot Water’s diverse range of music includes foot-tapping songs like Wamkelekile, energetic dance tunes and soulful ballads, as captured on its latest CD entitled Lifeline: www.hotwater.co.za/#music
