Fauré Requiem and other works - performed by the Cape Town Chamber Choir

Sun Aug 11, 16:00 - Sun Aug 11, 18:30

Lutheran Church

ABOUT

The comforting sounds and soothing melodies of the Faure Requiem will be heard in Cape Town again when the Cape Town Chamber Choir performs the musical masterpiece in August.

In addition to the Requiem, the programme will include Faure's well-known Cantique de Jean Racine, two psalms by Edvard Grieg and Arvo Pärt's Salve Regina. The choir will be conducted by its full-time conductor, Marijke de Villiers Roos, and the visiting conductor Rudolf de Beer. The organist Erik Dippenaar will provide accompaniment and Emmanuel Pousse and Tiffany Thomas are the vocal soloists.

Gabriel Faure's Requiem is beloved for its compassionate atmosphere. Where other requiems, like those of Verdi and Berlioz, include dramatic references to the Day of Reckoning, Faure's music attempts to soothe the grieving listener. In the acoustically rich space of the Lutheran Church, this programme promises to be a calming and healing experience for the listener.
