ABOUT

Sit in circle with weaver and artist Rene Bahloo and engage in deep contemplative, creative practice with natural fibres. You will be guided to weave a basketling which in turn will become a reflection of the weave of your self, your experience and your path of learning. Weaving is a practice which engages mind, body as well as spirit, and invites the wisdom of the weave to speak through your hands and hearts, in a safe and nurturing circle space.

René Bahloo of weavery.com.au will be back to facilitate an intimate weaving journey with us at Mogalakwena on Thursday the 19th September 2019. This is your last opportunity for this year, to connect with this busy installation fibre artist, and cultural exchange practitioner on her journeys around the country, and her home in Australia. 

René will share her extensive knowledge of plants and practises of traditional and contemporary basket weaving with you in this beautifully soulful meditative workshop. It is actually so much more than a workshop, it is an experience of growth and connection, of joyful expansion, to self, others and the environment, and a journey of spirit as it unfolds through the wisdom of the weave - a truly gentle and ancient practice. 

We will use plants that grow locally to create a special twisted-loop basket, which you can extend to create a carry bag, a garlic basket or a special altar piece. 

Although the technique will be taught in a way that ensures knowledge to begin, continue and complete a piece, it is not guaranteed that your piece will be completed in the time allocated for the workshop. This will depend on each person in the group - size of piece, depth of conversation engaged in, and quickness of practise. René is always available online however, to answer any queries that might arise in the continuation of your piece, to the completion of it.
