The Event

Please join us for our final adoption support workshop for the year designed to support adoptive families as a part of our mission to see every child in a thriving family.

On Monday 12 August from 7-9PM at Common Ground Church Rondebosch we will offer a group titled "Adoption & Trauma'. It’s been said by a number of adult adoptees that adoption is layered and complicated – it’s something which holds joy and a range of other emotions & dynamics. What does this mean for us as parents? Not everything is adoption related but not everything isn’t.

Come and practically explore what grief and trauma might look like (& why) for families formed through adoption.

Topics that will be covered include:

• Attachment and separation & how this links to good parenting responses to our children

• Disclosing adoption stories and why the WHEN and HOW matters

• Understanding how our children’s stories and our response to them either creates felt safety or creates hard spaces

The evening will be informed by input from Adult Adoptees as well as current research.

Registration is R50 per person and includes tea and coffee on arrival. Common Ground is at 23 Milner Rd, Rondebosch, and the workshop will take place in the Guest Lounge at the back of the property. (Drive to the back of the parking and enter through the door on the left.)

For any questions, please contact Arise on 021 633 4058 or [email protected] Don't forget to book your spot for the Cape Town Arise Adoption Conference on Saturday 7 September.
