Bass-baritone, Christiaan Snyman, in association with the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra, invites you to experience an unforgettable night at the opera on Thursday, 13 June 2019 at 20:00.
Christiaan Snyman studied with one of South Africa’s most esteemed opera singers, Dr. Nellie du Toit and started a career as opera singer in both South Africa and Germany, singing roles such as Papageno (The Magic Flute), Count Almaviva (Marriage of Figaro), Escamillo (Carmen), Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Belcore (L’Elisir d’Amore) and Sprecher (The Magic Flute). His career also included a permanent position in the opera chorus of the Theater Koblenz in Germany where he lived for 6 years before returning to South Africa in 2016. Christiaan appeared in the main character role as the villainous police chief, Scarpia, in the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra’s 2017-production of Giacomo Puccini’s opera, Tosca, in the South African State Theatre.
He has been invited to debut in the formidable role of Wotan in the New York-based Manhattan Opera Studio’s production of Wagner’s Die Walküre in July 2019.
The elegance of the Pretoria Country Club’s Ballroom will form the backdrop for this glamorous occasion where the audience will experience the vocal prowess of a multi-talented operatic soloist accompanied by a live symphony orchestra. Arias for bass-baritone from well-known operas such as Faust, The Tales of Hoffmann, Das Rheingold, Don Carlos and Die Walküre are included in the evening’s line-up as well as a number of works for symphony orchestra such as the overture to Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio.
