Paarl Skouspel 2019 - Senior Evening

To show our appreciation towards our Senior Members of the Drakenstein Community, we offer this show to them, FREE of charge . Coffee, tea and scones and/or soup and sandwiches will be provided. Donations are welcome!

Paarl Skouspel is an event in the line of the popular “Skouspel”, “Afrikaans is Groot” etc. concerts that’s being held by professional artists. The different however, is that our performers will only be lip-syncing, but with real moves and dancing. All performers are local, non-professional members of the community with no music or stage back-ground or experience and we’ll be performing 18 - 20 songs in Afrikaans & English. The show will be hosted at the Paarl Town Hall.

Although guests are fully informed about the fact that no real singing will be taking place (we do acknowledge each original artist), we can guarantee you that everyone in the audience will seriously doubt this... these guys and girls are simply BRILLIANT!

Our family concert event is happening on the 19th of July, selling tickets at R50 (children under 16) and R80 (adults).

The reasons for this Paarl Skouspel:

1. To generate funds for the 3 beneficiary organisations we’ve chosen. Valcare Trust & Eden Manor: Two local NPO organisations that does a lot of excellent work in the Drakenstein community and the National TBF (Theatre Benevolent Fund).
2. This is a community project, from the community to the community. We aimed to limit the price of tickets to the minimum, so everyone can join us for an evening of fun and real, professional entertainment. Tickets for real artists’ shows usually starts at around R150pp which is difficult to afford for an average income-family of 4 or 5 people.
3. Most of us are just so busy. All The Time. Working to survive. And surviving to work. We’re offering the members of our group who participate on stage, to explore and re-invest in themselves on a total different level. Where else would a normal, average person with no prospect of ever being on stage have the opportunity to shine under the spotlight?! The transformations and growth I’ve seen in participants recent years are mind-boggling. And very enriching. We do however work VERY hard to ensure that the show is a huge success and professional – from start to finish. This includes the décor, stage, lighting and sound.

The Paarl Skouspel long-term dream includes a challenge to other towns to do the same in their communities – suggesting that 50% of proceeds are offered to any local organisation and 50% to the TBF.

But for now... we’re planning to blow you, the Paarl community and the rest of the country away at our 2nd event in July 2019!
