The Uitsoek hiking trail is situated in the Mpumalanga low-veld, close to the Sudwala caves not far from the town of Nelspruit.

Being an indigenous forest, the natural wonders are everywhere. From rare and endemic birds to the most colourful mushrooms, butterflies, plants and insects. Anyone who enjoys the little and unusual critters will take hours to complete this section.

The climax of the hike is the Bakkans Waterfall. This waterfall is spectacular and can be heard long before you see it. You get a glimpse of the waterfall from the top before you descend to its plunge pool. The spray and breeze caused by the plummeting water is a very welcome natural air conditioner.

Bakkrans Day Trail:

The route winds through pine plantation above the Houtbosloop and through an indigenous scrub forest in the gorges. The trail passes the Bakkrans Waterfall, before returning to the base camp, crossing several small tributaries, feeding the Houtbosloop.

Distance: 11 km

Difficulty: Moderately difficult

Degrees of difficulty: Moderate

Arrival: 7th June, from 3pm

Depart: 9th June, from 10am

Accommodation :

The trail starts at the Uitsoek Hut.

Uitsoek Hut. Bunk beds, two ladies’ toilets and one toilet for the men, electricity and hot water.
