The Fundraiser

Ikey Tigers has been invited to defend our World University Rugby Cup title in Japan in September 2019. We have accepted this invitation and are fully intent on bringing the trophy back to South Africa for another four years. In order to make a tour like this financially possible the players and management have put in a place an ambitious fundraising plan to raise the almost R1m required (approximately R28k pp for each of the 35 travelling players and management).

Waseda University are hosting the 2019 edition and we look forward to taking on old foes Oxford University and Trinity College Dublin, as well Sydney University and a New Zealand combined universities team, among others.

The main fundraising activity is a raffle and auction night (THE NIGHT) on Saturday 17 August with sensational, lifetime bucket-list experiences up for grabs. THE NIGHT will be a fantastic event at Jack Black Brewery in Cape Town. Purchasing a raffle ticket gives you a chance to spend four nights in the Okavango Delta AND includes your entrance to THE NIGHT.

Additional fundraising events and activities are taking place between May and September - don't miss out - see below for details.

Support our remarkable students benefit from a trip that builds lifelong friendships and shapes their view of the world, themselves and their life’s potential. And stand a chance to win to great prizes!

THURSDAY 30 MAY

The First World Champions looks back at a forgotten Springbok tour to New Zealand in 1937: A carefully woven narrative featuring a motley crew of young men, momentarily freed of the throttling political narrative in South Africa, and allowed to express themselves both as rugby players and as human beings. They did so famously, so capturing the imagination of the generation of New Zealanders. Michael is generously contributing the proceeds for the evening towards the tour. Limited space!

Cost: R300 (includes drinks and snacks)
