Millennials in the Workplace

Thu Apr 25, 18:00 - Thu Apr 25, 20:00

The Aurum Institute

ABOUT

Millennials in the Workplace has been a hot topic over the past few years. Millennials refers to those born in the 1980s and 1990s. As of 2017, 56 million members of the US workforce were born between 1981 and 1996, compared to Generation X, which accounted for about 53 million, and baby boomers, who accounted for about 41 million. This underlines the fact that millennials are dominating the workforce and it is thus imperative to enhance their experiences in the workplace.

Millennials in the workplace are often perceived as entitled, narcissistic, and lazy with these perceptions perpetuated by older generations. In the same breathe, Forbes studies show that over 70% of Millennials in the Workplace prioritise social impact over money-making. Thus, the competing views of millennials in the workplace call on the need for further discussions.

Africa Matters will be hosting a Millennials in the Workplace discussion on Thursday 25th April 2019. The discussion will be led by Millennial African Womxn who are either employees or managers in their respective working environments. The speakers will be addressing the attendees with experiences of navigating the workforce as a Millennial employee or manager, the challenges and benefits of Millennials in the Workplace, how to harness the spirit of Millennials in the workplace, and why Africa needs to uplift Millennials during our youth boom.
