Plant People South Africa welcomes ethnobotanist and phytoalchemist Jean-Francois Sobiecki B.Sc. Hons. EthnoBot. (UJ), Dipl Clin Nutr. (Aus), to speak for us at Plant People Johannesburg. This exciting talk will provide a fascinating and educational view of the uses of our own powerful African Medicinal and Psychoactive Plants!


Jean-Francois has conducted many years of ethnobotanical research on South African psychoactive and medicinal plant use and has produced a number of publications on their therapeutic applications that he has been invited to present at world class conferences such as ESPD50 with Dr Dennis Mckenna.


Jean-Francois’ passion and vision is to teach and be a bridge to bring together many different cultures, scientists and healers from around the world to learn about healing with natural medicine.


Jean currently resides in Fourways, Johannesburg, and offers regular training and tours on South African medicinal plants, as well as holistic nutritional consultations.


In his presentation, Jean-Francois will takes us on a journey through his research on African psychoactive plants; from his fieldwork experiences, mentorship with a masterful Sotho traditional healer, seeing cross cultural patterns and tribal technologies of using psychoactive plant medicines as well as highlighting South African plant species of interest. On offer will be some of Jean-Francois’ own medicinal plant tinctures and incenses on the evening.


Jean will be holding a day medicinal plant training course at the Johannesburg Muti market and Klipriviersberg nature reserve on Saturday the 27th April.
