ABOUT
Prof. Monique Marks currently heads up the Urban Futures Centre at the Durban University of Technology (UFC@DUT). Initially trained as a social worker, she has a doctorate in Sociology from the University of Natal. She has worked mainly as an (activist) academic and writes predominantly in the field of criminology and urban studies. She has published six books and over 54 peer reviewed articles and numerous reports. She co-founded and established South Africa’s first low-threshold Opioid Substitution Project and is passionate about promoting more holistic treatment alternatives in the area of drug use in our city.
Together we will explore the very complex and often misunderstood story of drug use in our city, as well the very real challenges faced by our those in our city who are working towards humanising the problems related to drug use in our city.
Venue
Our venue for this event will be the BAT Centre - a community arts development and cultural entertainment centre located within the Small Craft Harbour off Durban’s Victoria Embankment. Come and have a drink at their bar or order food from their restaurant before the interview starts!
Tickets
Tickets are still free, but there is limited space so make sure you book yours on Quicket. You will need to provide your tickets or proof of payment on the evening.
Time
Drinks and food will be on sale from the BAT centre's bar and restaurant from 6:30pm.
The interview kicks off at 7:15pm.
We aim to finish around 8:30pm.
