Winter might be creeping closer but this party is bound to make you sweat from beginning to end!

The phenomenal Femi Koya and his famous saxophone have grooved and funked their way onto some of the biggest stages of in the country - and now they'll be teaming up with afro-rock group Warongx (all the way from the United States of Khayelitsha, Cape Town).


On Friday 10 May, scootch on over to Railways Cafe in Irene for a celebration of African proportions - right in the middle of Africa Month 2019.

World Afrobeat Music composer and performer, versatile saxophonist and dynamic vocalist, Femi Koya is the new face of the African Renaissance, combining West African highlife and Jazz, South African Sofiatown with a nostalgic Afrobeat root sounds, his music is a rich blend of deep and sultry Afrobeat and contemporary groove.. He is urban and urbane. His life’s journey - a story of migration from the West to the South - resonates in his music, which creates a conscious dialogue between West African and South African sounds. This musical fusion demonstrates the path to a new and culturally integrated Africa in which a common heritage is reinforced to meet the needs of today's world. His quest is for African unity at a time when he believes Africa should claim its rightful and proud place in the world.


Warongx:


Born in the Eastern Cape, Ongx Mona (guitar and vocals) and Wara Zintwana (bass and backing vocals) share a musical dream and a productive 10-year working relationship. Pioneering a genre of ‘Afro/blues-rock’, tinged with reggae and maskandi influences, Ongx has shared his music with audiences in Europe and the United States. Deeply accomplished musicians, they have shared the stage with Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Dorothy Masuka and Three Tonnes of Fun — and their original sound and unforgettable stage presence has earned them enthusiastic responses around South Africa. The band’s message of Peace and Order is central to their musical identity.


Fleshing out this duo is legendary Roger Khoza on keys, Masixole Mkhonto on drums and Lindelo Mangesi on tenor saxophone. The band produces a writhing, rhythmic groove while Ongx delivers soulful, impassioned vocals — a big sound for any size room, and always guaranteed to get the crowd up on its feet and dancing.
