WELCOME to one of suburbia's best kept secrets, Theatre in the Park!

Situated in the middle of the beautiful Delta Park, a stone throw away from Linden, Victory Park, Blairgowrie, Greenside and Parkhurst, Theatre in the Park is bringing theatre, comedy and music to the neighbourhood, accompanied by great food and drink from The Local Culture Pop-up Restaurant and Bar under the trees.

After officially opening Theatre in the Park with State of the Heart in February 2018 to a sold-out success, Amanda Strydom is back with her award-winning show!!

This timeless love story mimics the old “Afrikaner” traditions with compassion and takes you on a journey through the history of South Africa from the twenties to the seventies. Prejudices between people are portrayed through subtle, hilarious and heart breaking moments.

This cabaret reveals the cruelty of war and the passion of continued faith that love will prevail, despite setbacks.

It was a time when women had to know their place, men wore braces, smoked “Springbok Tobacco” and Afrikaans girls only married Afrikaans guys. It was also during this time that World War II broke out.

When the heroine of the story, the Afrikaans Maxie de Meyer, fell in love with an English pilot, Raymond G. Bartlett, sparks ignited a romantic drama in the tradition of the old Springbok Radio sequels. Strydom intertwines the story with songs in Afrikaans, English, French, Zulu, German and Dutch.

State of the Heart was the very first one-woman music show from Amanda Strydom's pen and in 1994 she was awarded the DALRO Prize, the Showtime Prize for Best Cabaret and also the Showtime "Show of the Year" award.

Strydom is accompanied by the talented Coenraad Rall.

Hierdie tydlose liefdesverhaal steek op ‘n teer wyse die draak met ou Afrikaner tradisies en kyk na die geskiedenis van Suid Afrika van die twintiger tot sewentigerjare.Vooroordele tussen mense word subtiel,skreeusnaaks en hartverskeurend bekyk. Die wreedheid van oorlog,die passie van ‘n hart wat bly glo,ten spyte van teenslae,dat die liefde sál seëvier,word in hierdie kabaret blootgelê.

Dit was ‘n tyd toe vrouens hulle plek moes ken,mans kruisbande gedra het,Springboktwak gerook het en Boeremeisies net met Boerseuns getrou het.Dit was ook in hierdie tyd dat die Tweede Wêreldoorlog uitgebreek het.

Wanneer die heldin van die verhaal,die Afrikaanse Maxie de Meyer,op ‘n Engelse loods,Raymond G.Bartlett,verlief raak,spat die vonke behoorlik en ontplooi daar ‘n liefdesdrama in die tradisie van die ou Springbokradiovervolgverhale. Strydom bind die verhaal met liedjies in Afrikaans,Engels,Frans,Zoeloe,Duits en Nederlands.

State of the Heart was die heel eerste eenvrou musiekteaterstuk uit Amanda Strydom se pen en sy is in 1994 daarvoor bekroon met die DALRO prys,die Showtime prys vir beste kabaret en ook die Showtime "Show of the year" toekenning.
