ABOUT

Permaculture - a design framework for creating systems which tackle social, economic, and environmental challenges simultaneously.

Come share in our flagship 2-day workshop as we explore:

  • What is permaculture?
  • How to effectively design your space
  • Drought resilience - storing water in soil and tanks; compost toilets; wicking beds; greywater reuse; and DIY filtration
  • Passive solar design - managing the sun's free energy in your garden and home
  • Soil fertility - composting; biochar; liquid fertilisers; worm farming
  • Organic practice - companion planting and crop rotation
  • Integrated pest management
  • Forest gardening vs vegetable gardening (annuals vs perennials)
  • Plant propagation - soil mixes; seed sowing; cuttings
  • Urban animal husbandry, and
  • Bed prep and planting

This is a participatory and practical workshop where you'll leave equipped with the fundamentals for bringing permaculture into your life. We will get hands-on with composting, worm farming, liquid fertilisers, propagation, and installing a garden!

Cost per person is R600.

In the spirit of transparency, please see this link for a breakdown of our estimated costs.

Please be aware that day 2 of this event takes place at 8 St Catherine Road, Plumstead, as we'll be implementing the garden at a fellow guerilla's home.

This workshop will only go ahead if there are 15 confirmed paying participants, so please share with those you feel may benefit. This is to ensure we cover our costs, keep the workshop fee low and make this education accessible. Should we not reach the 15 humans target, your ticket will be fully refunded. Tickets are non-refundable otherwise.

Confirmation that this workshop will go ahead will be announced on Monday 3 March 2019.

There are reduced cost ticket options for pensioners and low and no income earners. Send us a motivational message to apply. Only a limited number of these tickets available per workshop, so applicants will be vetted.

What to bring:

  • Snacks and a dish to share for a communal lunch. In the spirit of compassionate sharing, please ensure what you bring to share is kosher / halaal / vegetarian, and no stress if you're unable to bring anything, there should be plenty to go round.
  • Your own dishware and utensils
  • Sun hat
  • An open mind and your inner genius

See you then :).
