Gavan Ryan Aquatic Centre 2019
The College has embarked on a hugely exciting project to build a swimming pool, surrounded by an upgraded sports and leisure precinct with improved change room facilities, an enclosed viewing area, a grandstand and a central coffee and tuck shop area. This has been made possible by an unbelievably generous donation of R8 million by a past pupil from the Class of ‘64, Mr Gavan Ryan.
Mr Ryan’s donation is, however, conditional on the College community raising the balance of what we need, which is a minimum of R2 million, and perhaps a bit more if we are to realise our full vision. This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity, and we need the College community to rise to meet the challenge. There is no doubt that, if we all participate, we can do it!
The development of a pool precinct will directly and substantially benefit all the students at the College, as well as the broader College community. All children can be taught to swim or to swim better; swimmers will have a place to train; there will be a venue for inter-house and inter-schools galas; and the sports precinct around the pool will be a great place for functions, and will enhance the look and profile of our College.
