The Event


The Design for Recycling Indaba is being hosted by WWF in partnership with SAPRO as a part of the Propak Africa 2019. The event and aims to

  • Foster commitment by industry partners, to develop a local Plastics Pact in South Africa.
  • Promote PackagingSA's Design for Recycling document and promote producer, brand owner and retailer commitment to adopt this as a standard for sustainable packaging design in South Africa.
  • Facilitate and encourage standardised use of on pack recycling information (OPRL), in accordance with the SANS and ISO requirements.

It is envisaged that this platform will enhance dialogue, peer to peer learning and design sector and packaging industry participation, connecting knowledge and expertise with real world challenges and opportunities in sustainable packaging design - building on the long-standing relationship and shared vision of the partners to respond to the global shifts in single use plastics towards more sustainable packaging solutions and design innovation to facilitate recovery and recycling thereof.

This event is being spearheaded by the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-SA) and the South African Plastics Recycling Organisation (SAPRO)- and forms part of several activities being hosted, with support from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), aimed engaging stakeholders across the value chain to commit to the development of a local Plastics Pact in South Africa.

Industry leaders and decision makers, retailers, brand owners, and sustainability managers, Producer Responsibility Organizations (PRO’s), Government; Research, Academia; converters and recyclers are all welcome.

  • Full delegate- R 650
  • Delegate plus one- R 1250 ( note this is a pay it forward option where SAPRO will nominate a beneficiary for the 2nd ticket)
