ABOUT JAZZ ON RED

JAZZ ON RED features a once a month Jazz extravaganza showcased in the heart of the V&A Waterfront. Live Jazz music nestled within the lively OUIBar + KTCHN Radisson Red Hotel. A selection of live Jazz artist in and around Cape Town will have the opportunity to showcase their original Jazz compositions. We have selected lazy Friday nights where you can unwind with your favourite drink whilst the boys and girls at OUIBar + KTCHN looks after your tummy and thirst. JAZZ ON RED will be curated and hosted by Esra Overberg and special guests.

Legends in Jazz – Legends in jazz will be interviewed whilst performing their iconic jazz pieces. It promises to be an intimate one on one evening with music and legend. Youth in Jazz – There are inspired youth artists in Cape Town keeping the genre alive, in this series we will be showcasing young and upcoming talents. Woman in Jazz – Cape Town has an abundance of female jazz talent and in the month of August we will feature a series on Woman in Jazz. Here we take a closer look at how woman have contributed to this rich genre in Cape Town. Acoustic Jazz – This will be the amazing unplugged series where we go with zero volts, just raw and pure. Percussion's, grand piano, acoustic guitar, saxophone is just a few instruments. Cape Jazz – This feature will showcase the local artist’s original music as well as covers both local and international. This is a laid back evening sipping on your favourite drink and singing along and if you good at dancing... why not... the floor is yours.

ABOUT CHADLEIGH GOWAR

Chadleigh's bass lines reminds one of Mac McKenzie when he played with The Genuine’s. CTIJF 2016 (Cape Town International Jazz Festival) Chadleigh Gowar's bass interlude was sublime as he deftly led us on "A little walk along the beach with a sea lion". Our Songbook – 2017 (Live show/concert) Chadleigh Gowar is probably the most underrated bass player in South Africa. A few years ago he released “Mr Africa”, the title track of a three song EP . Chadleigh proceeded straight into his unique style of bass playing with the afro rhythms of “Bobby”, a song dedicated to long time friend Brandon “Bobby” George a synth player who, along with Christian, Dustin Julius, Jason Sampson, Jason Ward and Chadleigh were the original line-up of “The Comrades”. The audience shrieked with delight at the opening lines of “Mr Africa”, the title track of a three song EP released a few years ago by Chadleigh.

Chadleigh Gowar born and bred in Hanover Park, Cape Town, South Africa. Chadleigh started playing the bass guitar at the age of 11, He started out just playing in church and thereafter he played for groups/bands in and around the Western Cape. Chadleigh has played with likes of Ernie Smith, Alvin Dyers, Richard Ceasar, Derrick Skippers, Kani Naidoo, Les Javan, Camillo Lombaard, Ramon Alexander, Celeste Williams, Janine Neethling, Jannie Moolman, Simangele Mashazi, Auriol Hays, Candice Thornton, Ivan Siegelaar, Melanie Scholtz, Gift Gwe, Tebogo Louw, Heinrich Frans, Brandon October, Bianca Le Grange, Rouchelle Liedeman, to mention a few.

We will have a live Jazz DJ (Stan The Jazz Man) on the decks keeping you moving whilst we enter a happy hour session at the QUIbar for those coming straight from the office. We then commence straight into our night of original jazz compilations and concluding with more music from our Jazz on Red resident DJ (Stan The Jazz Man) .
