ABOUT
The third event of the KFC Summer Kitesurf Series is the STRAPLESS Wave Riding competition.
It is important for us to reiterate - this is strictly a STRAPLESS Wave Riding contest. There will be NO scoring for any kiter using straps in any of the divisions.
Event breakdown
1. A panel of 3 judges and a head judge
2. Heat times may vary between 8 and 12 minutes
3. A wave is scored on a scale of one to ten
4. Kiters lock in their two highest-scoring waves
5. There are no limits to the number of waves that can be ridden;
Judging wave riding is always a subjective verdict. Nevertheless, judges make their assessments and throw scores for waves ridden by kiters based on five major criteria:
1. Commitment and degree of difficulty
2. Innovative and progressive maneuvers
3. Combination of major maneuvers
4. Variety of maneuvers
5. Speed, power, and flow
The kitesurf judging scale can be translated into qualitative terms:
0 - 2 Poor Wave Ride
2 - 4 Fair Wave Ride
4 - 6 Average Wave Ride
6 - 8 Good Wave Ride
8 - 10 Excellent Wave Ride
As this is always a popular event numbers have been limited in order to be able to complete the competition in reasonable time.
