ABOUT
Brixton Walking (& a bit of cycling) Foodie Tour
Times: 11:00 – 15:00
Date: Sunday, 9 December 2018
In the shadow of the landmark Brixton tower, overlooking the forest-suburbs of Joburg , lies the historic and unique suburb of Brixton. A neighbourhood with a strong sense of community, an interesting mix of residents, and a fascinating story to tell, Brixton will surprise you with it’s hidden secrets.
The morning starts with a visit to the local park, where you will place your book (part of your tour fee) in the community library, supporting one of Brixton’s many community initiatives. A gentle walk takes us to one of the most beautiful, retro coffee shops in Joburg. Bicycles and a guide will be on site for a short cycle through Brixton. Forgot to ride a bike? Chill with a fresh juice in the inviting courtyard instead.
Included:
A Huevos Rancheros Pizza Slice
OR
½ Meppel Pancake
Tea/Coffee
We continue our stroll to the next stop. Ridwaan has an interesting personal history, and will share his passion for cooking (learned in Fietas and Fordsburg) inside his house, that also operates as his unique business premise. Bring cash for the freakishly tasty cherry cold drink!
Included:
A Platter of one lamb kebab, cheese & jalapeno rissole and a Chakalaka pie. (Vegetarian options available)
Not a restaurant, not a bar, one of Joburg’s most interesting spaces, a unique African eatery, is host to our next foodie stop. Expect to be treated on a variety of traditional African eats, and bring some cash for the bar. (No cards accepted here). Infamous owner Sifiso will join us and regale us with more Brixton stories.
Included:
Tapas style African snacks.
We end our foodie journey with the best views not only in Brixton, but in Johannesburg. Meet singer Elzabé Zietsman over dessert and a sundowner in her stunning guesthouse.
