ABOUT
The Maboneng Township Arts Experience is a public arts intervention that works with homeowners from different townships around South Africa to create their residences into art galleries. Together with gallery-home owners, we create festivals and permanent art homes called TAGs (Township Art Galleries)
Together with the 2014 Arts Alive International Festival, we are launching the Maboneng Township Arts Experience in Soweto, Orlando West, Moema Street just off Vilakazi Street. We have 10 exhibition spaces that include Next Door and The Soweto TV venue in Vilakazi Street. Mashumi Art Projects is also curating the exhibition. On the performance side we have quite a cool program that includes processions from Giant Match with their giant puppets. The event becomes more sizzling as we collaborate with the LoCrate market team to put our two events together.
Food is a critical part of our public art exhibition. Food trucks will be present as we explore the theme: 7 COLOURS, a local concept where the dish has 7 colours. We will be exploring more themes at our film screenings and our gallery homes.
