Jazz In Our Lifetime with Keenan Ahrends Trio

We have pleasure of a live performance by keenan Arhends Trio with Sphelelo Mazibuko (drums) and Romy Brauteseth (bass)

Keenan Ahrends is a Cape Town Born Jazz guitarist who started playing at the age of fifteen. After completing his jazz performance studies at the University of Cape Town and the Norwegian Academy of Music in 2009, Ahrends has been actively involved in performing ,composing and teaching. 

Ahrends kicked-off 2018 with his debut at the Cape Town Jazz Festival performing work from his album with the Keenan Arhends quintet : Sisonke Xonti (sax), Sphelelo Mazibuko (drums), Nicholas Williams (piano) and Romy Brauteseth (bass). His also been part of Thandi Ntuli's new project called Exiled, Mandla Mlangeni's New York Times listed Tune and Recreation Committee and Sisonke Xonti's Iyonde Album. 

Ahrends has also collaborated with established musicians such as Louise Moholo, Andile Yenana, Afrika Mkhize, Buddy Wells, Mark Fransman, Shane Cooper, Sony recording artuist SOMI (USA), Salim Washington (USA) and Kevin Gibson amongst others. 

Ahrends is a regular performer on the South African music scene.He has performed at various Jazz clubs all over South Africa ,and at various Jazz Clubs and festivals in Norway, Nigeria and Sweden. Notable performances throughout his career in South Africa have been at the Joy of Jazz Festival in 2006 (National Youth Jazz band), Standard Bank Youth Jazz Festival (2006, 2015),and at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in (2007, 2015) , Edge of Wrong Festival (2012)

Ahrends has been commissioned to compose works for the Cape Town Goema Orchestra(2012, 2013, 2014)
