ABOUT

SMT eTeaching Information Session

The Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) is technology that can truly transform the classroom, and yet it is underutilised or simply not used in many South African schools.

During school visits, SATeacher found that at many schools all over the country inappropriate (and often very expensive) infrastructure had been installed due to the lack of understanding of what is available on the market.

Many SMTs and SGBs are so busy with the important task of keeping their schools running effectively that there simply is no time for proper research and they then have to rely solely on information from suppliers.

Suppliers are naturally biased towards their own brand and tend to "oversell" infrastructure to schools.
On top of this, most suppliers can only provide technical training on their own products. The lack of proper training on teaching methodology is a key reason for not fully unlocking the power of eTeaching.

As an independent education specialist, SATeacher is therefore hosting a series of SMT/SGB eTeaching Information Sessions.

During this 90-minute session we will cover the following:
  • Introduction
    • Why is ICT/technology in the classroom important?
    • What is learning and how do we learn?
    • Difference between eLearning and eTeaching
    • The power of visual learning
    • CRA instructional approach
    • eLearning buzz words
  • How to select the right infrastructure for your school
    • Different eTeaching solutions and tools
    • How to select the correct computer
    • Factors we need to consider when selecting a projector
    • Different types of Interactive White Boards and systems
    • The use of tablets in the classroom
    • Classroom management systems
    • Document readers as teaching tool
    • What software to use in the classroom
    • Must you be connected to the internet for eTeaching
    • Difference between LMS and adaptive learning
  • How to ensure you get the most from your investment
    • eTeaching champion
    • The right partner
    • Create opportunities and inspire
  • Questions and Answers

HOST

SATeacher has been empowering teachers to teach since 2003 through training and the provision of equipment and resources to  support the South African Curriculum (CAPS).

To date SATeacher has developed and published more than 581 titles, trained over 30 000 educators from the most rural to the most sophisticated school environments across South Africa.  The approach with both resource development and training sessions is always hands-on and practical, employing internationally researched techniques and methodology. The aim is to make a difference in the understanding of educational content by both teachers and their learners.

While Mathematics remains a key focus area, SATeacher has devolped Curriculum based material on a wide content spectrum on appointment by the Ministry of Education, the Robben Island Museum, the Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa, Maropeng - Cradle of Humankind and many other organisations.

SATeacher supplies, installs, trains on and provide Curriculum based content for Interactive White Boards and distributes a huge range of their own and other educational resources from pencil through books and sound bars to laptop computers and eResources.
