Kempton Youth Development (KYD) aims to make a meaningful contribution to the social and economic development of Kempton Park and surrounding areas by concentrating on creating opportunities for the youth in the community. Sports and physical activity form a pivotal part of this approach. Sports facilities are valuable community focal points which contribute to the positive qualities of the community they serve.

Therefore KYD has set up a project (KYD Astro Zone) to build an artificial water based hockey field (astro turf) which is the preferred surface for modern hockey. It will also offer the opportunity for hockey development in less privileged communities, bringing the sport within reach of all. The KYD Astro Zone will be a centre of excellence that has the potential to add considerable value to our community, through the hosting of prestigious hockey tournaments, both inter-provincial and national.

One can only imagine the heights that players could reach if they had a top-class astro turf facility right on their doorstep.
