High School Spring Walks - Friday, 05 October 2018

ABOUT

On Friday, 05 October 2018, all HBIS High School students, except for IGCSE 2 and DP 2 students who will be writing exams, will be participating in one of three Spring Walks.

Students have to pick one of the three options available and must sign up for the one which they will do.

Parents will be welcome to join the walks if their teenagers will allow them to. In some cases the extra supervision might also be appreciated. If any parents would like to join any of these walks, please contact Mr Stofberg - [email protected]

#1 - The Spring Challenge - The toughest of the three options for the avid hikers in the school. The walk will start in Tafelberg Road close to dawn (time t.b.c.). Hikers will summit Devil's Peak, carry on to Maclear's Beacon, the highest point on Table Mountain, then follow the Apostles route decent at Llandudno Ravine. Collection will be at the Ruyteplaats entrance.

• Min 10, Max 25 students - all good, fit, capable hikers
• Duration ±8 hours
• Start 06:00 at along Tafelberg Road
• Finish around 15:00 at Ruyteplaats, Hout Bay

#2 - Chapman's or Noordhoek Peak Hike - This hike will start and finish at the Checkpoint along Chapman's Peak Drive. The group will head up to the saddle, then either turn toward Chapman's or Noorhoek Peak. There isn't too much difference in the two peaks and the conditions on the day will determine which they will summit. The group will take the same route up and down from the peak.

• Min 10, Max 50 students
• Reasonably challenging hike
• Duration ±4½hours
• Start at 08:30 along Chapman's Peak Drive
• Finish around 13:00 along Chapman's Peak Drive

#3 - Cecilia Forest Walk - This walk will be suitable for everyone, with a start and finish in the Constantia Nek parking area. The group will take the stairs up to Eagle's Nest to enjoy the great view of the valley for a snack. They will then follow the jeep track down and toward Kirstenbosch, turning at the Cecilia Forest parking area and following the now popular mountain bike track along Rhodes Drive back toward Constantia Nek.

• Min 10, Max 80 students
• Mildly challenging walk
• Duration Duration ±4hours (with some breaks)
• Starting at 08:30 in the Constantia Nek parking area
• Finish around 13:00 in the Constantia Nek parking area
