HBIS PA are hosting a Parent Workshop run by Jonathan Mitchell and Mark De La Ray from the Glenbrook Practice www.glenbrookpractice.co.za

Topic: What is Typical, What is not?  

This parent workshop will include an interactive presentation and Q&A session around identifying and dealing with the typical adolescent behaviours versus the problem behaviours.

It will look at adolescent–family conflict and the ways that families get polarized, don’t see eye to eye, and find themselves escalating or shutting down. We then describe/talk about ways of deescalating and resolving conflict through walking the middle path and between acceptance and change. As well as including an overview of the Step – Upp Programme for Teens and Tweens

The STEP-UPP® group for adolescents provides skills for navigating the emotionally difficult situations and stressors that accompany adolescence. It is a program for developing the management of emotions, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.

This workshop will be facilitated by Jonathan Mitchell BA (HSS) (Psych) (UNISA) and Mark De La RayPsych Honors (Rhodes), MA. (Clin Psych) NWU. There will also be written materials from the workshop that can be circulated to parents afterwards.
