ABOUT

Join us for IN THE DARK's 3rd instalment of the year - this time featuring the magical music of one of the 20th Century's most important composers: Oliver Messiaen. Apart from writing very complex harmonies, melodies and rhythms, Messiaen was also a keen ornithologist - something that is evident notably in the fantastic work "Le Merle Noir" (The Blackbird) for flute and piano, incorporating stylised bird songs. This epic piece will be performed on the evening, alongside the mammoth Second World War piano duo "Visions de l’Amen"

Messiaen also claimed that he perceived colours when he heard certain musical structures. We invite you to drink in this synaesthesia in darkness, with blindfolds to add to the experience.

Our featured artists are the young talented pianists @Nicholas Haralambous and @Dominic Daula, with a special guest appearance by the phenomenal flautist @Gabriele Von Durckheim.

The Hot Skillet will also be open to stimulate your sense of taste and smell. What goes better with good music than good food and wine!
