Kyle Shepherd - Solo Piano
An impassioned advocate for his heritage both culturally and artistically speaking, Kyle Shepherd is quoted as saying, “My music is a direct representation of my traditions and the lineage of artists that came before me. I am merely a portrait of their mastery while at the same time actively participating in the global, universal sound”. Whilst the influence on his creativity by master composer, arranger and pianist, Abdullah Ibrahim is tangible, his artistic voice remains one that is profoundly distinctive in every way imaginable.
Kyle Shepherd is set to perform a solo piano concert in one of the most prolific spaces in Cape Town. Home to a truly progressive leader who challenges convention, the 'Central Methodist Mission Church' on 'Green Market Square' serves as the ideal backdrop for what is always a unique listening and visual experience. Young lioness, pianist and composer, Nobuhle Ashanti will open proceedings.
This concert will serve as a fundraising event. The proceeds derived from this concert will be allocated to Grade 9 pupil, Emma Johannessen who, along with a group of fellow pupils (challengers), will be joining the 'World Challenge' group on an educational expedition to 'Uttarakhand', Northern India. 'World Challenge' is an organization that inspires and nurtures youth to live lives of courage, kindness and adventure. Emma and her fellow pupils will be tasked with facilitating and coordinating all logistical aspects of their journey and will be involved in a community project of their choice. "I know that I will come back a different person. This expedition promises to change me and challenge my worldview. It will test my independence and resilience, and I am sure will help me find a new appreciation for what is.”
