In keeping with its commitment to provide an inspiring and informative place for art-focused dialogue, September’s Talking Art at Keyes will host A Conversation with Zeitz MOCAA: The Next Chapter in partnership with Strauss & Co and Art Week Joburg.
Taking place on Wednesday September 5th in the Strauss & Co Art Hub at Keyes Art Mile, the latest in the Talking Art at Keyes series will be an illuminating conversation between Zeitz MOCAA Co-Directors, Azu Nwagbogu (Acting Chief Curator), Brooke Minto (Director of Institutional Advancement) and Michael Farquhar (Acting Director of Operations).
Together, the museum’s three Co-Directors will explore the next part of the journey for the world's largest contemporary African art institution, in a conversation moderated by Susie Goodman, Strauss & Co Executive Director. Also present at the upcoming Talking Art at Keyes event will be Anton Taljaard, Keyes Art Mile Director and Zeitz MOCAA Advisory Board Member, as well as Jochen Zeitz, co-founder and co-chairman of the museum.
The conversation between Nwagbogu, Minto and Farquhar will be followed by a question and answer session that will give the Johannesburg art community an opportunity to explore Zeitz MOCAA’s ongoing journey in more detail – particularly pertinent as the Cape Town institution enters its second year of operation.

Talking Art at Keyes is a quarterly event hosted by Keyes Art Mile to provide an opportunity to engage in robust discussions about how art informs, challenges and moves us.
The series explores ways in which art gives the artistic community a voice – a platform to comment, express, interpret and interrogate with a freedom that is so often inhibited or censored by more traditional forms of expression. Whether an experienced collector or avid enthusiast, Talking Art at Keyes, held in the Atrium at Keyes Art Mile, is an inspiring and informative place to learn more and join in on the dialogue with artists, curators, collectors and other industry specialists.

Launched in September 2017, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a public not-for-profit contemporary art museum that collects, preserves, researches and
exhibits 21st-century art from Africa and its Diaspora, hosts international exhibitions,
develops supporting educational and enrichment programmes, encourages intercultural
understanding and guarantees access for all. Over one hundred galleries
are dedicated to a large cutting-edge permanent collection, as well as temporary

AZU NWAGBOGU
ACTING CHIEF CURATOR - ZEITZ MOCAA
In 2017 Azu Nwagbogu was appointed as Curator at Large for Zeitz MOCAA and in 2018 he took on the role of Acting Chief Curator at the institution. Nwagbogu is the Founder and Director of African Artists’ Foundation (AAF), a non-profit organisation based in Lagos, Nigeria, dedicated to the promotion and development of contemporary African arts and artists since 2007. He also served as Founder and Director of Lagos Photo Festival, and is
the creator of Art Base Africa, a new virtual space to discover and learn about contemporary African Art and the diaspora. For the past 20 years, Nwagbogu has curated private collections for various prominent individuals and corporate organisations in Africa. He’s also served as a juror for several international photography awards, and, among other curatorial achievements, was nominated as Curator for the Prix Decouverte Rencontres d'Arles 2014, Photoquai 2015 and Photolux Festival 2015
BROOKE MINTO
DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT - ZEITZ MOCAA
Brooke Minto is an arts administrator, fundraiser, art historian and educator with experience working internationally for museums and arts organisations, recognised for her ability to advance institutional development and foster community engagement. She is currently Director of Institutional Advancement at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town and Executive Director of Zeitz MOCAA Foundation USA. Previously, Minto served as Chief Advancement Officer at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and, among other positions, was Deputy Director for Development and External Affairs at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) in Louisiana for four years. Minto has been adjunct lecturer in the Department of Art and Art History at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami and has contributed essays and articles on contemporary art, emerging, and mid-career artists to exhibition catalogues and other publications. She regularly serves as a visiting critic and juror for creative practices including visual arts, architecture, and film.
MICHAEL FARQUAR
ACTING DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS - ZEITZ MOCAA
Michael Farquar comes with over 20 years experience in managing attractions. He is currently also the CEO of the Aquarium in the V&A Waterfront, one of Cape Town’s top tourist attractions. He previously served at Operations Manager at the attraction, focusing not only on managing visitor experience and operations, but also leading the team of staff, and planning, designing and constructing new exhibits.
