Sounds & Words is a creative project and movement. The project seeks to blend the literary asthetics rich in poetry/spokenword,
with the musical affect rich in different genres of music such as Afro-beat, Jazz, Folk, Raggae, Funk, High-Life, and Classical music. This was imagined out of a thirst for creating a new art awakening,and revolution that carries a sincere message and artistic diversity...
The band has been together for over a year, and we perform regularly at different venues in Cape Town [mostly cafes and art galleries] and we have been able to drive our ideas and push our course through music and poetry. It's our goal to relay these art awakening and diversity across other borders of the world and reach as many souls as possible. We believe we carry a very positive message which is worth sharing and engaging with.
Our poetic and musical materials are historically, academically, and socially informed. We nuture, critic, and shape the delivery of these materials with our trained talents and cultural knowledge [ we allow our background and personality reflect through our sounds]. We create a very conscious and intimate atmosphere, an artistic and spiritual ambiance which facilitates a depper and higher level of communion with the audience. Our art speaks to audiencies that cuts accross different spectrum of class and race within the society.
