Shifting the attention away from schools, this Women's Day is aimed at honouring the women of Cape Town by contributing to their freedom of mobility with the bicycle at the centre of our strategy. Although not a feature of the women's march to the Union Buildings 62 years ago, the centrality of this simple piece of technology in the various global histories of women's emancipatory struggles since the 19th century is well known and it is one that we, together with Cape Town’s inaugural Bicycle Mayor, not only endorse but wish to uphold in our community.
