The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course is an integrative, participant-centred approach to stress management & self-awareness.
Mindfulness is currently one of the most extensively researched fields in neuroscience and psychology.
"Mindfulness is a powerful method of re-integrating ourselves into the flow of life, bringing us back to our wisdom and vitality.”
- Jon Kabat-Zinn
'MBSR' means stress management through the practice of mindfulness. It is based on a systematic training of mindfulness. Through various exercises such as body awareness, bodywork or "classical" meditation, you will learn to engage in a new way with the reality of the present moment.
MBSR is a well-researched stress reduction programme different from many other stress approaches in that the emphasis is on shifting your relationship to experience itself rather than learning techniques. MBSR has been the leading stress management program for the past 45 years.
Mindfulness means to be attentive in a certain way: consciously, in the present moment and without judgment. This kind of attention enhances awareness and promotes clarity as well as the ability to accept the reality of the present moment. It makes us aware of the fact that our lives consist of a sequence of moments. If we are not fully present in many of these moments, we not only overlook what is most precious in our lives, but also do not realize the richness and depth of our opportunities to grow and change.
The primary intention of a Mindfulness Bases Intervention (MBI) is to relieve suffering and increase wellbeing for people facing a multitude of challenges coming from medical and psychological conditions and demands from every-day lives of human beings. This is done though “formal” and “informal” mindfulness practices and experiential learning.
It was developed in 1979 by Dr. med. Jon Kabat-Zinn of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Massachusetts (USA). This method has been proven to help people cope better with stress and stress-related illnesses. To date, MBSR is the only program in this field which the effectiveness has sufficiently been substantiated by scientific research.

People often equate meditation with a sense of blissfulness and peace. However, mindfulness is about becoming present to ourselves. Often when we are quiet, we become aware of our distress, grief, fear and pain. Mindfulness is about compassionately engaging with whatever we find, not running away from it. It takes commitment and perseverance, intentionally putting aside time to be present to ourselves.
The 8-WEEK MBSR Course is suitable for people who are feeling stressed out in their work or private life, live with acute or chronic diseases, suffer from chronic pain, are burdened by psychosomatic complaints, experience impairments from anxiety or depression, suffer from sleep disorders, listlessness or moodiness and they want to work on changing their situation.
It is also suitable for people who wants to make an active contribution to the preservation or recovery of their health, seek a meaningful supplement to medical or psychotherapeutic treatment, would like to live more consciously, wants to learn a method for self-inquiry.
