Kalk Bay Community Centre

ABOUT

Kalk Bay Community Centre is a wondeful intimate space opposite Dalebrook Pool on Main Road. These four extrarodinary artists join forces for the first time to bring you "Pan African Calling" - original tunes which will take you on a journey through the temples of Thailand and Nepal, the jungles of Central Africa, the warm waves of the Caribbean, and back home through the fynbos and mountains.

Dave Reynolds is an extraordinary fella. He SA's top steelpannist (from the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean), plays a ten-string harp guitar (made by the Tamura brothers of Kochi, Japan) as well as assorted percussion and an electro-acoustic guitar. He's recorded & performed with Andy Narell, Hugh Masekela, Steve Newman, Paul Hanmer & others.

Pops Mohamed is SA's leading indigenous music expert, playing the kora (West African harp), Kalimba (Zimbabwean thumb piano) & Khoisan Mouth Bow (Botswana). He has won two Life Time Achievement Awards, toured with Andreas Vollenweider & Baba Maal and produced recordings for Cat Stevens.

Originally from Ireland, Ronan Skillen plays tabla (India), oudou (Nigeria), didgeridoo (Australia) and various other African & Asian percussion instruments. He has performed and recorded with Johnny Clegg, Freshly Ground, Hot Water, Jeremy Loops, Jennifer Ferguson and others.

Although Kaapse-to-the-core, bassist Charlton Daniels has breadth. He has performed and recorded with Jonathan Butler, the NAMA Jazz Series at Artscape, the Frank Paco Art Ensemble (Mozambique) and Top Dog SA.

Last chance to see this show before Pops & Dave head off to Kuwait and Ronan to Switzerland.

Bring your own drinks and glasses !
