About

** Just for coming to the show you could win! **

Since starting his entertainment career in 2011, Joe Emilio has become a well-known name in the Cape Town comedy scene. His highly relatable, storytelling comedy style has taken his performances to some of the biggest stages, both locally and internationally - From Cape Town Comedy Club at the V&A Waterfront, to Rock N' Run Festival in Namibia.

Joe has a fascinating life-story to tell... Born in Texas USA, at age 9 Joe moved to Egypt where he lived in Cairo for 9 years, before moving to Cape Town in 2007. Joe instantaneously fell in love with the Mother City, trying to embrace the culture ever since, and wanting to hold the right to call himself ‘South African’. While his mother is South African and he has the ID to prove it on paper, is that really enough?

This is what Joe talks about in his comedy - becoming South African, or at least trying to be.

“Over the last 10 years my friends have given me various versions of what I need to do to become a real ‘Capetonian’, which I mostly have, but I guess I will let my audience decide if I have finally earned my stripes”, says Joe.

Dirty Pink City Blog show review said:

“It’s a must-see for all South Africans; you will relate and laugh at everyday things that you wouldn’t normally consider as funny… He’s like an old friend telling stories over a few beers in a bar – no pressure.”
